Backpacks are a good way to carry more items around with you. They're carried around on your back, taking up the chest armor slot, meaning you can't wear a chestplate at the same time. While there's items inside, you can't remove the backpack from the armor slot. They can store the same amount of items as a normal chest by default. As an item, you can simply put it on the ground just like a chest.

Use[]

TO OPEN a backpack place the backpack on the ground and then right-click it.

TO EQUIP it, and therefore carry around the items inside the backpack, break it while sneaking. Careful, because if you don't sneak, or already have something equipped (in your chest piece armor slot), the items will spill on the ground.

TO UNEQUIP you have to sneak and right click the ground (more specifically, the top side of a solid block) with an empty hand.

Normal Backpack[]

Normal backpacks pretty much work like leather armor; which means they take damage, can be enchanted, repaired and colored. They will drop their contents when they break or the player dies. You can sometimes get one as a drop from a zombie. To craft Normal Backpacks, you need the following:

  • 1 Gold Ingot
  • 1 Wool
  • 7 Leather

Ender Backpack[]

Ender Backpacks are pretty much portable ender chests, with the best of both worlds. It uses the same storage as the ender chest, so items that are stored inside are completely safe.

There is no crafting recipe for this backpack, but there is a way to get it in survival mode. The first step to getting the Ender Backpack is locating an enderman wearing one. This is a rare find. Just like with players, you can open the Backpack on it as long as he's looking away from you. Killing the enderman does not drop the backpack. Rather, you must place an ender chest near the enderman wearing the pack. The enderman will (hopefully) pick the chest up, causing the backpack to be dropped. The pack can only be picked up by sneaking before breaking it. Doing so without sneaking causes the ender backpack to teleport.
