This is Crumble Horn in-game.
Crumble Horn is an item obtained from Quest Ram after giving him all kinds of wool (the basic ones from normal minecraft).
Usage
When used agaist Stone, it will turn into cobblestone, then into gravel, and then the gravel will be mined like you have done it with shovel.
Hint
When used in underground, it can be used as a great source of gravel or flint, makes getting flint easier.
