Hi I'm playing on a private server with my friends. On day I teleproted through the ground with my ninja dagger, then my hexxit crashed and everytime I want to join the server, my hexxit crashes :C. What should I do?
I have a request for the Configuration File page - could it, and all other technical pages like that, be protected so that only trusted users could edit them? I don't feel safe having a very influential page like that open to all editing.
In addition, I thought it might be a good idea to request removal of all anonymous user editing. This could definitely save us from a lot of vandalism.
Good idea! Took care of it. What other pages are you talking about specifically?
And as for removing anonymous user editing, I'm pretty sure I can't do that for all articles. Although there is a select minority of anons that vandalize, there is a majority that actually have important content to add. Our wikia, and all others for that matter, are built on our users, both registered and anon, and I feel it wouldn't be right to block all anons from the process for the actions of a select few. Plus, vandalism is a very important part of our job. Its part of why were here. Again, all the vandalisms you find, let us know about them after you fix them (if you do so). Although we let anons edit, we have a zero tohlerance policy for blatant vandalism by anons, and we will take care of blocking them.
There are some things that can be done with witches, using mods in Hexxit, but generally these rely on farming type mechanics. I feel the page should still be around but there is a lot of information still lacking from most of the pages.
Besides the farming mechanics, the biggest section would be a "How To Deal With Them" (or "Strategies" if you will) that could easily add additional content about any vanilla mob with Hexxit methods to dealing with mobs instead of just the standard.
Let me do some research into witches to see if they behave differently in Hexxit with other mobs, in other dimensions, etc. That way the page will have hexxit related content that pertains to the mod pack.
I'll also give some research into perhaps hexxit specific ways of dealing with them as well as hexxit specific ways for farming them, etc.
With all the mods in the mod pack I see no reason why such information couldn't possibly be there.
I was wondering if I could apply for adminship, if only to stop clogging Kalbintion's message wall with vandalizer reports. I've worked for a while on this wiki and am doing a lot of work to keep the vandalizers, which seem to be so prolific, off.
Hey Silver! Its great to see your interested in becoming an admin. However, I don't really think that we need another admin at this time. Most of the admin duties over the last few weeks have been on Kalbinton because I've been busy with my return to college. I do plan to be more active now that im readjusted. I do thank you for your continued effort to make this wiki a better place, and if we do begin to look for another admin in the future (which, if the wiki gets any popular or something happens, then we should) then you'll be at the top of our list for consideration. If you don't want to keep flooding kalbinton's message wall then you can also redirect some of the messages to me too. Thanks again for your continued help! ^u^
I wouldn't be against Silver being an admin. Especially considering Rikann-Z doesnt administrate nor edit anymore and Maru is essentially mia even though he himself said hed start being active again on his message wall.
If either of those two come back and start being active again along with you Jeter, I would have to agree but presently I do not see any reason why we couldnt have another sysop being able to do some things here, however we really need to get some administrative standards going for punishing IPs/members when rules are broken.
I have sent an email to Wikia staff asking for some additional user groups to be added for the Hexxit Wikia, these specifically for allowing users (Such as Silver) to assist us in maintaining the wiki without obtaining a full sysop or bureaucrat status.
The first one being a "Blocker" user group that can block (but not unblock) users and them sending email, this would be a rare group to give out but could allow more trusted users the ability to undo damage and stop vandalism.
Second being a "File Mover" which is as it sounds, I remember myself being here originally and getting file names incorrect when originally having them uploaded, but couldn't move the file due to not having permissions. This often left files unused, and is meant to help users move files they uploaded or move others files without the need to reupload the same file under a different name.
The last being a "Comment Patroller" that has the ability to delete, edit, and move page comments. This is meant to assist similar to the blocker status in preventing vandalism/spam/etc
I'll post their response if they are able to do this, and/or what they want us to do at this point.
The Hexxit wikia has no "karma" styled system in place, and if they want us to have a discussion about it before having them im place, i said in the contact email to have them talk to me before shooting it down so we can get this moving. This also isn't the first time i've contacted them about getting odd things incorporated (its how the Template:USERNAME page came about) so, we'll see.
Edit the page like normal, and place your response below the page content. Only time not to place it at the bottom is if you're responding to a particular response, in which case indent the content.
If you're using source editor (which I recommend for all users) then scroll to the bottom of the editor window, you'll see a comment I placed saying where to add additional responses, and to indent, precede the line with : (Note: Every new line you create [via enter, not a wrapped line] you'll need to place the appropriate number of :'s to indent as well)
Edit: If you've ever used a normal talk page, and not a message wall or comment system (ie: pages that begin with the namespace then a _talk: prefix is a normal talk page, such as the talk page, prior to the message wall addition, for my user page is User_talk:Kalbintion, or the talk page to say, the grid/crafting table template would be Template_talk:Grid/Crafting Table.) it would be exactly like that.
I have given Silver the commentpatroller and filemover groups, but was wondering if he should get blocker as well. I had said on his message wall that due to the nature of blocker I would prefer having multiple admins agree to it.
That simply isn't the case. There are a lot more permissions that go into the sysop group than you would expect.
Here's a small list of the differences:
+ Bypass IP blocks, auto-blocks and range blocks (ipblock-exempt)
+ Bypass automatic blocks of proxies (proxyunbannable)
+ Change protection levels and edit protected pages (protect)
+ Delete pages with large histories (bigdelete)
+ Edit blog articles (blog-articles-edit)
+ Edit items in a Top 10 list page (toplists-edit-item)
+ Modify abuse filters (abusefilter-modify)
+ Modify abuse filters with restricted actions (abusefilter-modify-restricted)
+ Override the spoofing checks (override-antispoof)
+ Override the title blacklist (tboverride)
+ Revert all changes by a given abuse filter (abusefilter-revert)
+ Search deleted pages (browsearchive)
+ Unblock themselves (unblockself)
+ Undelete a page (undelete)
+ View deleted history entries, without their associated text (deletedhistory)
+ View deleted text and changes between deleted revisions (deletedtext)
+ View detailed abuse log entries (abusefilter-log-detail)
+ admindashboard (admindashboard)
+ notifyeveryone (notifyeveryone)
+ Add groups: blocker, filemover and commentpatroller
+ Remove groups: blocker, filemover and commentpatroller
+ Add groups to own account: blocker, filemover and commentpatroller
+ Remove group from own account: Administrators
JeterNYY wrote: Well it seems that if he had all three of those he would basically be an admin. Silver, what was the biggest problem you had because you weren't an admin?
I couldn't block vandalizers.
Ok well I think that, since he's done a lot for the wiki, he should get blocker privledges. However, I don't really think he needs the other two, although it doesn't really matter too much if he keeps them or not.
File Mover group is meant to allow users to move files, because without - only sysops and higher can actually move them. There are A LOT of files that are improperly named to the image name standards. While it isn't "admin" related per say, it is something normal users cannot do albeit they should be able to. I've already given my reasoning though on wanting this group to give to people.
I believe being able to move files should be a default thing, but due to a potential security issue — details unknown — with it, it isn't a default thing. Most users who have been around a while should be permitted to tho however, even if they had no idea about or it nor intended to. Because who knows, maybe you'll some day go and attempt to rename a file and will have to bug us about renaming it or getting the group. I see no reason why you shouldn't have it though, even if u don't use it.
As for the blocker group - I gave you that a few minutes ago. Congrats.
I had recently blocked a user for multiple violations. The user being the subject of this wall post, User:Lhs970317. A lot of the content uploaded by this user is very similar, if not identical, to the other user who was blocked, User:Builderman0317. I am wondering if they are the same people and if extended blocks should be in place for both usernames. I intend to submit both usernames to the wikia staff to see if they say they're the same person or could be the same person.
Any thoughts on this in terms of disciplining users that do this? Etc.
They do look very similar. If we could find out what their IPs were it would help, but i cant seem to figure out how to do that. If they aren't the same person, you could always block lhs for attempting to impersonate Builderman.
CheckUser is how this is done, which is why I would need to contact wikia staff. Help:CheckUser for more info. Here is a copy of the message sent to staff.
Hello, I recently had to block a user on the Hexxit Wikia named Lhs970317 who had been uploading content that isn't appropriate for the wiki (nothing obscene), as well as placing the video content in comments and uploading multiple copies of the same video, create pages with nothing but a delete tag and various other things. This is very similar to another user that was on the hexxit wikia name Builderman0317 that had to be blocked for very similar reasons and that user is also suspected of using IPs to do similar edits of creating pages with a delete tag. Suspected IPs belonging to Builerman0317 at the time: 220.127.116.11, 18.104.22.168, 22.214.171.124. Also an additional IP that was blocked for very similar reasons: 126.96.36.199.
I am wondering if these IPs and/or users are somehow related and if they are, I feel some action should be taken at this point to prevent any further editing, but such a course of action if any I want to discuss with JeterNYY and Marumaru315 (two other admins) on JeterNYY's message wall: http://hexxit.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:30514
I just checked my email and noticed a response to my support. It appears the Lhs person does indeed match one of those IPs.
Brandon Rhea, Dec 29 08:06 PM:
Thanks for contacting Wikia. Lhs970317 only matches one of the IPs you listed, though I'm afraid I can't tell you which one since that's private information. Lhs970317 does not, however, match Builderman0317, nor does Builderman0317 match any of those IP addresses.
I hope that points you in the right direction. Feel free to let us know if you need anything else.

Note: Forwards of these emails can be sent upon request to any party involved.
There are reasons however on why the IPs do not match or cannot be correlated between the two or the IPs even though the actions done by them suggest they are the same person doing the actions. Since we do not know anyone involved on a personal matter on where they live or if they moved, etc; it is possible that they did move, or perhaps switched ISPs at some point which would provide a new set of IPs that they would have never logged into the old account with, especially if it had been blocked already. It is also possible that proxies are being used to log-in with and are being used to circumvent the block on previous accounts/IPs.
While this is all speculative, I intend to see where these IPs originated from and I will report what I find on their origin to see if they originate from the same company and location. The only exception to this possibly being the case is the 69.* IP due to the large octet drop compared to the rest.
Result: Another IP that is registered in Korea. Seems to belong to the "Busan Education Research & Information Center" which doesn't have a specific URL under a google search but a related url was found in the lookup that gave me a website dealing with what appears to be a School District type website located in Korea and may belong to the above IP.
End result: I feel most IPs should be permanently blocked if they belong to a server hosting company as they often belong to proxies or illegitimate purposes. As for what could potentially match up with Lhs is probably one of those first two, and that person logged in with one of them. If Lhs had matched two of them I would most likely have said that the user is matching the Korean ones due to the nature of those two (e.g.: a user logging in from home and while in school)
This said, since I do not know the nature of Builderman0317's IP address due to lack of access (Also I believe that IPs are not private information, not sure why wikia feels that way) I cannot for sure say that Builderman0317 is using proxies due to the lack of matching anything but that Lhs has used a proxy at least once.
I am not suggesting any course of action at this time upon the IPs suspected of belonging to a proxy or belonging to Korea. I am also not suggesting any course of action at this time with this post to do anything further with Lhs and Builderman simply because we don't know enough at this time unless the current admins feel there is enough proof to move forward with something.
I just got back on and noticed Lhs had returned and done a lot of the same type of stuff that got him blocked the first time. This time I blocked them only for 2 weeks but warned on their wall that if they return and do it again they will be blocked indefinitely.
Both Lhs and Builderman have been blocked for a year btw, as they both continued doing inappropriate edits. It isn't indefinite but it hopefully will deter them from doing the same types of edits when their block expires.
