Touchstone of Midas

Uses[edit | edit source]

When in a player's inventory, the Touchstone of Midas will consume any glowstone dust available to 'repair' itself by 4 durability points per dust. Once a golden tool or golden armor piece takes damage, the Touchstone will quickly and automatically transfer some of its own durability to fully repair the golden item. It may repair golden items an indefinite number of times, as long as the player can supply the Touchstone with glowstone dust. The Touchstone can hold up to 257 points of durability at a time, although the player may carry extra glowstone dust in their inventory to recharge the stone as it operates.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • Despite being made partially of gold, Gold Plated Scale Armor is not repaired by the Touchstone of Midas.
  • The Touchstone will wait until it reaches 253 durability or lower before consuming a piece of glowstone dust.
  • This may be part one of the most powerful craftable item sets (in terms of raw damage) in the game when combined with Magicbane, due to its ability to seamlessly extend the daggers' usefulness beyond its 16 durability points.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The namesake of the Touchstone, King Midas, was a mythical Greek king. According to the ancient story, Midas was granted a reward of his choosing by the Greek god Dionysus for being hospitable to Silenus, the god's lost companion. As per his request, Midas was gifted (or cursed with) the power to turn anything he touched into gold. The loaf-like shape of the Touchstone may be a reference to this, as Midas eventually discovered that whatever he tried to eat would turn into solid gold.
